I started this blog to help with my accountability with my finances.  I am trying to get out of debt, save money and be a better steward of God’s blessings.  Over the last year, the blog has led me to reevaluate a lot of things in my life.  I have been allowing God to change me, to simplify my life, and to break me from the bondage of consumerism.  It has been amazing.  I have come so far from last year this time and I still have a long way to go!

    Hi,

I just happened upon your blog because of your post about Qdoba. When I came to your about page and saw that you are focused on getting out of debt and are a Christian, I figured you needed to know about Dave Ramsey and his Total Money Makeover plan. Maybe you are already involved in it, but if not, you’ll have to check out Dave’s Radio show, podcast, books, etc. He has a great plan and is a great motivator for those of us who are focused on being free from the oppression of debt! Check out http://www.daveramsey.com and read about his “baby steps” and listen to his radio show in the archives (this is free) or get the podcast on iTunes. It’s great stuff from a good guy.

    Take care,

    Steve

Update!!! I have paid off a large chunk of my debt and now only have ONE major credit card to pay off. Right now that balance is sitting at around $7200. Yikes. That’s a lot! But hey, that’s about $3000 less than what I had 3 months ago!

    Hi Laura,

I came across your site while reading homeschooling blogs. I thought that you may be interested in our site because it is free and geared towards homeschooling moms who like arts and crafts. Please check it out – readsake.com. The purpose of the site is to promote quality time between parents and their children. Parents can make personalized books by replacing the default pictures and character names with ones tailored to their kids. They can also print coloring pages for free – no more buying coloring books! The site allows for user pages which friends and relatives can visit to print their children’s pictures and books. All of this for free!

    Thanks!
    Ryan

I was happy to discover your blog today. I was unable to find an email link in your profile. I hope it’s OK that I’m contacting you through a public comment. I’ve developed an educational program for Windows called SpellQuizzer that helps children learn their spelling and vocabulary words without the battle that parents often have getting them to sit down and write them out while the parents dictate to them. The parent enters the child’s spelling words into the software making a sound recording of each word. Then the software helps the child practice his or her words. It really helped my children with their weekly spelling lists.

I would appreciate your reviewing SpellQuizzer in Counting My Pennies. You can learn more about the program at http://www.SpellQuizzer.com. There’s a video demo you can watch at http://www.spellquizzer.com/SpellQuizzer-Demo.htm. Finally, there’s a page targeted to homeschooling families at http://www.spellquizzer.com/spelling-software-for-homeschoolers.htm. I’d be happy to send you a complimentary license for the software. Please let me know if you are interested.

    Thank you very much!

Hey Dan! That’s fine that you left a comment. I’ll check it out and get in touch with you about it. I’d love to review it and as much as my daughter likes to spell and read I know she’d love to try it out. Maybe I’ll have her write the review!

    Hi Laura,

I’m a reporter with The Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg and am interested in doing a story about unschooling, which is how I happened upon your blog. Would you be interested in being interviewed? (I’m not positive where you’re located, but you do mention the ‘burg a fair amount, so I’m hoping you’re local!) Can you email me and let me know? You can reach me at kqueram@dnronline.com. Thanks!

    Hi Laura,
I noticed your posting in 2008 and images about your finger felon. I am an editor with Medscape (owned by WebMD Health) and I am going to be publishing a manuscript soon by Dr. Ed Rupert on Fingernail felons. We were wondering if you would send me an email letting us have permission to use this image in his manuscript to help illustrate what a felon is.
Kindly email me at nseefeldt@medscape.net if this would be ok with you. If you like we can work out the details on how we would attribute the photo.
    Thanks,
    Nicole
